Klay Thompson praised by Eli Manning

Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors will open their 2023-24 NBA season on Tuesday when they host the Phoenix Suns. The Golden State Warriors will be short-handed as Draymond Green is out with an injury. However, after losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs, the Warriors are excited to start the new season. Thompson and the Warriors are considered title contenders.

While biding his time, "Clay in the Sixth" appeared as a guest of Peyton and Eli Manning on the "Manning Podcast." Thompson played football in high school and remains an avid NFL fan. He supports the San Francisco 49ers, who are in the same city as the Warriors.

While the soccer legend was covering the game, Eli Manning suddenly told Klay Thompson that he was one of the greatest scorers in the NBA. All the Warriors guard could do was say "wow" to the two-time Super Bowl MVP.

The younger Manning is one of the best quarterbacks of all time. he led the New York Giants to two Super Bowl victories over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, in 2008 and 2012. His praise surprised Thompson.

Eli Manning wasn't flattering Klay Thompson. Calling "Klay" one of the best scorers in the NBA is not an overstatement. Thompson once scored 60 points in just 29 minutes. If Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had given him normal playing time, he could have broken the 80-point mark.

Thompson also holds the record for most points scored in a single quarter. The four-time champion scored 37 points against the Sacramento Kings in January 2015, breaking the previous record of 33 points held by Carmelo Anthony and George Gervin.

Klay Thompson's deadly shooting was also on full display last season. He led the league with 731 three-point attempts and hit 301 three-pointers. When Eli Manning made a comment about Thompson, he knew what he was talking about.

Klay Thompson's High School Football Career

Klay Thompson was a two-way football player in high school. He played free safety on defense and quarterback on offense. Some of his former teammates thought he was good enough to make it to the National Football League (NFL).

During his time in the NBA, Thompson posted a photo of himself calling a play from the line of scrimmage. He used the hashtag #klaytonmanning to document his feelings on these plays.

Thompson explained why #klaytonmanning is important to him this way:

"I'm known for interrupting plays, not listening to my offensive coordinator, and making my voice heard. Most of the time, my voice usually wanes. I end up throwing the little slants that Peyton likes to throw. I always try to throw deep. ...... Chicks love the long ball."

Klay Thompson's basketball career

Klay Thompson may not have followed in the footsteps of the Manning family, but he has built an illustrious basketball career. Eli Manning made sure Thompson got his flowers on "Manning Radio."
